May My Dog Rest In Peace

I'm very sad to say that we had to put our dog down yesterday.

She was an amazing dog.  She was born on October 5, 1999.  This just happened to be the same day that we had to give our first dog away.  (Our first dog wasn't happy with our family.  We absolutely LOVED that first dog, but SHE didn't want to be with US.)  We adopted our girl about the same time that I started to struggle in life.

I remember the way that we threw her toys, and she would chase after them, slide on the hardwood floor, bounce into the wall, pick up the toy, run and then slide back again to us.  What a puppy she was!  Squeaker toys never lasted more than a day.  The toy would last, but the squeaker would be broken!  Of course, her FAVORITE toy was her red treat ball.  It took her at most a few minutes to get the treats out of that ball.  We would hide it for her, and then she would go and search for it.  For her very first Easter, we placed a few treats in a plastic egg, and she saw it, picked up the egg, dropped it so it would crack open, ate the treats and left the egg.  She loved getting the paper, even though it was so heavy it would often slip out of the plastic and fall all over the yard.  She would find my shoes for me, she would wake me up in the morning, she would open and close doors, and so much more.  Her favorite thing to do was to chase rabbits.  (And eat rabbit poo!)

There are so many wonderful things I remember about this dog.  She was there for me during the times I really needed her the most.  I would not be here if it weren't for her.  I feel that god gave me this dog, and yesterday, I gave her back.  She was the best gift god could ever give me, and I'm so grateful for that gift.  She passed away just days after I moved out.

One of the hardest things for me right now is knowing that I can no longer say that I have a dog.

Good-bye, girl.  I love you, pups.  Rest in peace.
