I'm Not Careless

Posted by Admin on January 21, 2013 at 10:50 AM

I can't seem to keep up with my bills, but why do people think it's because I'm carelessly spending my money? Is it really careless to buy a $70 pair of good walking shoes when I tend to go through the cheap pairs every 3 months and I have a hole in my current ones? Is it really careless to spend $250 on an oil change and a replacement of a car part that died? Is it really careless to spend $20 on a DVD that I've been waiting to watch for the past 2 years and it's the first one I've bought in months? Is it really carelessly spending to buy myself a $15 new fitted bed sheet because my old one had been used so long that it had a hole in it? Is it really carelessly spending to buy myself $45 tanks of good quality gas a few times a month for my car so that it doesn't break down as often? Yes, I buy some junk food. Yes, I go out to eat once in a while. But it's because I need to have a life outside of working so hard to pay off these items. I'm not buying myself an iPad, a 42" HDTV, a sports car, a designer dress, etc. I'm buying items that allow me to live a somewhat functional life.

Hi there! I just found your blog. My sister has Aspberger?s and I?ve recently made a new friend with the condition as well. If we can get her to stop calling me every hour or so, that will be nice. :-)

Anyway, I just read this post and there?s a great money book I can recommend to you that addresses this exact problem- it?s called All Your Worth by Elizabeth Warren and...another author whose name I can?t remember. Anyway, it?s a great book and helps you get your money in balance so you have enough for what you need, enough so save, and enough to spend however you want.

Looking forward to reading more of your blog and learning more about life with Aspberger?s from an expert. :-)

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that you may be able to save some money on gas depending on how old your car is. Modern cars with computer controlled engine management systems (for sure anything built since the 1990's) actually run best on the type of gas specified in the manual or on the gas cap door. If your car says it takes regular, not mid grade or premium, then using higher octane gas does not actually help and the car computer will readjust to run on the fuel, so you can see that there is no need to spend more on gas than your car requires. If your car requires premium then you should always use premium tho you can get away with some lower octane rated fuel in a pinch, just be sure to top up with premium again when possible. I hope this helps you in some way, from a fellow Aspergers buddy/car nut. :)
