I can't STAND it when people say things like "We'll see.", "Let me think about it.", "I'll get back to you." or other similar responses. Before you begin to assume the reason for this is that I'm being impatient, let me explain my issue.
When I was younger, I had trouble understanding what was a "reasonable" amount of time for someone to respond to me. I could never figure it out, and was worried that the person would forget. So I would keep reminding them. Constantly. To the point where I bugged them so much that they would just say "forget it!" I probably had this issue because the response time can vary depending on the situation. It could be a few hours, it could be a few days....in fact, it could be a few months!
So how do I know how long I should wait? I still don't know. However, NOW I would rather be polite and "patient" than be rude and bug people. NOW my issue is that, instead of constantly nagging people, I just quietly obsess. I wait. I don't make a move until I get that response.
Yes, I've wasted so many hours by doing this. But I don't know how to move on. What if someone says "Yes, we can get together." and I'm too tired because I decided to go run some errands instead of waiting?
What would REALLY help me is if people were not to say "I'll let you know", but "I will let you know BY this certain time". THAT way, if I don't hear back from them by that time, I KNOW I can remind them without bugging them.
